Newsletter / Blog 2025-04-23 Hydrate your skin for the colder months
With autumn here and winter not far off, it is time to look at salon treatments and home care routines that will see your skin through this dry, windy and cold seasons. I admit that this is my favourite time of year. Usually by the beginning of January I've had enough of summer and the oppressing heat and can hardly wait for the colder weather to arrive. We are all aware of the effect of winter on our skin: dryness, flakiness and an overall feeling of tight and uncomfortable skin that is screaming for help! For those who suffer from eczema, the dry conditions can exacerbate itching, redness, and cracks in the skin, while psoriasis flare-ups may result in increased scaling and discomfort. Cold weather and wind can make the skin more sensitive. The skin’s natural barrier is compromised when exposed to extreme temperatures, which can lead to increased susceptibility to inflammation. Also, be aware of the wind chill factor when you wander outdoors. Cover up as much of your face and neck as you can with your beautiful scarves! Autumn is the ideal time of year to start a skin regime that will get rid of all the dry, sun-exposed summer skin and to add radiance and help with skin cell renewal. I change most of my clients’ skin care products for home use as soon as winter approach. Products with more nourishing and hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamins and ceramides. Environmentally it is a gentler time of year to use light to medium chemical peels (Alpha and Beta Hydroxy acids) as well as Vitamin A to help restructure and revitalise your skin.
